It came in a trade with New England a couple years back and it has costed them quite a deal.
not sure since part of the penalty for cheating was a loss of draft picks.????? must be from a trade with the niners, or one that involves the niners in side deal
It was aquired in a trade deal for a player that took place last season. Im not sure who they got for it, but the Pats sure are the winner in the deal.
The 49ers traded up in last year’s draft to get Joe Staley. New England was picking 28th, and the Ravens were prepared to grab Staley with the 29th pick.
The 49ers were given the Pats’ pick and took Staley, in exchange for giving New England their first-round pick in 2008.

The Patriots had 2 first round picks last season. They used one to acquire S Meriweather from Miami. They traded the other, and a later pick, to the Niners for their 2008 1st round pick.
They lost their later pick due to the penalty handed down by the NFL over the whole “Spygate” thing as we all know. They get to keep that pick they traded for.
