Absolutely not! Bill Walsh built an organization that won with class. But what alot of fans either dont remember or just dont know was that Bill gave more to the NFL than any other coach including Vince Lombardi. He was an innovator, mentor, coach, teacher and administrator. Since the 49ers won Super Bowl 16 in 1981, 10 of the last 25 Super Bowls have been won by Walsh or one of his disciples. Seifert, Holmgren, Shanahan, Gruden and Dungy. Walsh was instrumental in creating openings for minority coaches. And of course he was the one who introduced the West Coast offense to the NFL, which was used by many teams. He also introduced the scripted play calling and developed the pass-catching back. The 49ers because of Roger Craig, Rice and others developed a legendary work ethic of working out during the off-season and training camp. The team also had a philosophy called the 49er way. There was simply a higher expectation of everyone in the organization. The work ethic was incredibly high. Joe Montana? The guy was drafted by the worst team in the NFL. Three years later he was the Super Bowl MVP. Weeks after back surgery, he returns to NFL action. He played his best ball AFTER back surgery, two NFL strikes, a head coaching change, other major injuries and a quarterback controversy involving Steve Young. Ronnie Lott? The guy had part of his finger cut off so he could finish the season. The guy was a warrior in every sense of the word. If you wanted to play along side Ronnie you had to earn his respect. The guys bought into the 49er way to the point that Randy Cross technically played one game in the mid 1980's without a contract. His had expired and the new one wasn't quite done. Guys dont even want to play WITH a contract today. Look, if all of you want to get a very unique insight into the 49ers dynasty, I very strongly recommend a book called "We Were Champions" put together by Phil Barber. It's not written like a regular book. Instead it is a compilation of quotes and comments by many of the former players on the star players, the coaches and the Super Bowl seasons. It's incredible how these guys saw pro football and the expectations of the owner, the coaches and the fans, as well as the players. Go to your nearest bookstore or online and get it. Its worth it. The one amazing fact I learned was a quote by longtime 49er assistant Bill McPherson. When commenting on Walsh and the coaching there, he said that there were only two or three coaches fired in 23 years, which is unheard of. Walsh developed coaches and sent them out prepared for success. Actually I'm not surprised that fans, other players, announcers and former players share a great dislike for the Patriots. People could take Da Bears and their Super Bowl shuffle. The crass of Jimmy Johnson and the Cowboys could be tolerated. Ray Lewis with his legal troubles and winning the Super Bowl was accepted. Even the Rams behind Kurt Warner, the Greatest Show on Turf, was still interesting to watch and you still respected them for their explosivness. But the Patriots did something this year that simply is not acceptable. They took the strange world of NFL ethics and basically thumbed their noses at it. Cheating, running up the scores, mouthing off. Classless acts. 2007 was a disaster for sports and the NFL. Steroids in MLB. Refs gambling in the NBA. Marion Jones stripped of her medals for drugs. Darrent Williams and Sean Taylor murdered. Losing legendary Bill Walsh and former coach **** Nolan. Thats just to name a few. The Patriots had the chance to step it up like men and win with class. Give people something to cheer about and watch with interest. But they didn't. They played with a huge chip on their shoulder and for a few measly records. And in 35 years of being a NFL fan I've never seen such hatred across the board and across the nation for one team. Makes the black hole at the Oakland Coliseum seem likeable. That's bad.

Dynasty teams will always have those fans who **** them. Fans who give reasons that the players or team is classless because of how they respond to the media is an invalid remark. there is no rule saying a player or coach must be nice to the media who twists facts around and comments around to get more ratings. sometimes the best teams are the teams who play the game and don't care about the media. Also as far as spygate goes get over it and you cannot say the previous Super Bowl wins are tainted over the spygate thing because remember this was a brand new rule placed after the 2006 season ended. before this rule it was not illegal to tape just frowned upon so live with it. All 32 teams could be called cheaters in any year based on breaking a brand new rule put in place. but no one talks about those teams because they currently are not winning. the rules of the game have been changed, added and removed since the creation of th NFL as we see it. if i recall the tackling with face mask penalty was not even there in the 70's so the player would not have been penalized like today. Just accept that the fans **** winning teams mainly those who are rivals of that winning team..

There were a lot of 49er fans. I live in central Illinois and there were some here. You never hear anyone say they are Patriots fans. Bill Walsh and Montana were likeable. Bilichek is not likeable and Brady is too much of a prettyboy. Spygate really hurt their fan appeal.

I am a 49er fan from the John Brodie era. Most of the people I knew did not have any strong negative feelings towards the 49ers except Giants Fans. During the 80's the 49ers were their nemesis even more than Dallas or the Bears. Unlike Bill B, Coach Walsh sat his players when they were hurt. He cared more about their health after their careers were over.

Yes. The 49ers were also cheating back then. Owner Eddie Debartolo (who was later kicked out of the NFL on gambling scams) had his father funneling players from his USFL team to the 49ers. He also cheated on the salary cap by secretely giving Deion Sanders part ownership in a chocolate factory in lieu of pay.

Not everyone hates the Patriots (unless you live in NY or Indianapolis) on the night of their final regular season 34.5 million people tuned in to see what they would be inevitable history . If you claim that haters watch TV too, then how come only 995,000 watched Barry Bonds break Henry Aaron's record? The Patriots are America's New Team.
