Considering they were already behind when the draft started based on the trade they made last year with New England, I’d say they didn’t do much to improve their team drastically.
they did ok, they helped there DL with kentwan balmer and filled a hole at OG with chilo rachel and reggie smith is a good DB but I dont see any stand out players and I thought they would take a linebacker.
not very good. They got balmer and hes good. I mean they got a guard in the second. Reggie smith is okay. The rest are nobodies and they didnt even get a quarterback. Ill give them a c-
I Think They Did Ok B/C They Did Fill All Of Their Needs On The OL DL. And They Picked Up 2 Great Special Teams Players One Will Probably Return THe Other Defend. And They Also Picked A Fast WR Wich Will Help In The Long Run
1.Kentwan Balmer DE 6′5″ 298 North Carolina
2. Chilo Rachal OG 6′5″ 315 Southern Cal
3. Reggie Smith DB 6′1″ 199 Oklahoma
4. Cody Wallace OL 6′4″ 296 Texas A&M
5. No Fith Round Pick
6. Josh Morgan WR 6′0″ 219 Virginia Tech
7. Larry Grant OLB 6′1″ 235 Ohio State
these people dont know **** about the 9ers and theyre commentating on them? i bet none of them even watch college football and just know the big names from big schools.
i like the draft. yea i know they didnt get any big name players or **** picks but they addressed their needs. what are the 9ers’ 2 biggest needs? DL and OL. bryant young retired and larry allen will likely retire. you saw how pathetic the oline was last year, it got alex smith killed. we were already thin at OLine and it doesnt help that david baas tore his pectoral either. we got ketwan balmer, who can play NT or LDE, he is a monster with good athleticism. some draft sites question his work ethic? well, why did he play on almost every down then? i think with good coaching, he will be a stud. plus he was a good value pick. i never saw a mock with balmer falling this low. he doesnt have a ton of sacks or tackles but in a 3-4, thats not what youre supposed to do anyway. he is here to push bodies and take up space and at 300+_lbs, he will do that. it makes it easier for lawson, willis, etc.. to rush the passer.
chilo rachal was a good pick. i know nobody has even heard of him, but he was ranked as the 2nd best G behind albert. teams were picking OLinemen left and right and they were going fast. he was the best OLman at the time. plus he can replace larry allen. he also has a mean streak too.
reggie smith was a nice pick. he was supposed to be a late 1st/early 2nd guy. so we got good value. in the nfl, you can never have too many CBs, especially in our division with boldin/fitz/holt running around. most people think smith will be a safety since he doesnt have great speed, but either way, he helps our 2ndary.
Wallace - bit of a reach, but the 9ers didnt have a 5th rounder this year. but he was mel kipers best ranked center. this guy is pretty strong and athletic. i dont think he is pro bowl material but with good coaching, i think he can be a decent starter.
morgan - well we do need WR help, so we got the best one at the time. he was VTs best receiver and he has good hops. i dont mind the pick
grant - well we did need an ILB and we got one. nothing special but at least he provides depth.
we also got cameron colvin to come in for a try out. he was the #1 ranked HS receiver at the time from De La Salle, but injuries messed up his college career. this kid has some talent and i hope he can make the team.
the receivers in this draft class werent that great. there was a reason why nobody picked a WR in the 1st round. desean jackson could be a star or just as easily be a bust. kelly isnt very fast and you need to be fast in martz’s system. and sweed gets hurt too much. i wanted manningham or doucet in the 3rd, but we already have a ton of WRs on the team already. and no need for a TE RB or QB as we already have 3 QBs.
so while fans may not like this draft because of a lack of star power, i think the 9ers did the right thing and drafted their needs and to get depth rather than go for the high profile players.
yea our draft wasnt as spectacular as KC’s or Philly’s or Washington’s, but i think they improved the team as a whole. id give it a solid B.
If they got Mcfadden, Dorsey, and Jake Long they would still ****.

Reggie Smith rocks and was a steal in the 3rd round.
