How man of the San Fransisco 49 ers actually know why they are called the 49ers?

   It was in 1849 when the Gold Rush took place at Sutter’s Mill thus the 49′ers. It also explains why gold is part of their uniform.

   It’s a good question, but I’d guess there’s some kind of orientation package or something given to new players that covers little details like that. If not, there should be.

   What about the Cleveland Browns?

   It’s not a requirement for signing a 49er contract, I can assure you of that.
