Bring this question up in 2 or 3 years it is too early to tell I predict he will be a bust though. Lets see how he does with his weapons this year on offense. Smith has a rating of 83 on madden 08. If he were a great or elite quarterback his rating would be at 89 by now. They have to take a Defensive Tackle in the First Round they should wait till a later round to get Bobby Reid from Oklahoma State.
No, simply because alex smith is still really young, he’s the youngest starting QB.
This is the make or break year for Alex. He’s shown some accuracy, and good feet, but he still has a long way to go. I don’t think we use our top pick on a qb, but if he doesn’t really step up we might draft one later on to increase competition for the position.
One thing, he’s been protected long enough by the coaching staff. He needs to step up.
If there is a Franchise QB in next years draft, then the 49ers should draft one…
The problems with Alex Smith are:
1. He ran a Spread Offense at Utah, which does not necessarily translate well in the NFL
2. He has a tendency to NOT look at his 2nd and 3rd receivers while reading thru his progressions…
3. The 49ers spent alot of money on this guy such that it may not be a good idea to put more into another drafted QB…
You should pick up one in the 3rd round that slipped thru the cracks and won’t cost you that much…
The 49ers have alot of pieces for a good team, but the window of opportunity in the NFL is small…It would be a shame if Alex Smith does NOT work out as the years go by and are wasted!!
No, that would be a waste of a pick. This is only his 3rd year so he is young. Now if he dosent improve within the next few years then maybe. They still need to work on offense picks and special teams.
