The Niners will start Alex Smith, whether we like it or not. They have too much money committed to Smith in 2008. After the 2008 season, I believe the Niners will need to make a decision for or against Smith because his contract bonus kicks in. I say give him another season and see how it goes. Alex Smith will either turn into Drew Brees (needed a few seasons to become a top QB) or David Carr (hopeless).
As for Shaun Hill, he’ll definitely move up to backup QB after the Niners waive Dilfer. He’ll give Smith competition for the starting QB position, but the odds are stacked against him to win the starting job.
Smith will start next year but if he does shitty Hill will come in and if he does shitty they will draft a QB
