The 49ers are going to be the team to beat in the NFC west this year (dubious honor though that is.) They've been improving consistently under Nolan's direction, with the exception of last year when they had to find a new OC last minute (and surprise! He ******.)

But with O'Sullivan - who's looked surprisingly good - a good receiving corps, Gore and Foster running in tandem, Vernon Davis and an even MORE improved defense, a lot of teams aren't going to have an answer for the 49ers.

I'm guessing 9-7 for them. They are going to open a lot of eyes.

And as for the nay sayers, no one ever thinks a losing team will improve from one year to the next. Of course, every year the nay sayers get proven wrong by someone.

I think there will be a considerable difference in this team this year, just sitting Alex helps tremendously! Unfortunately I think we still have another year or so before we can really benefit from Martz's talents.

Mike Martz is considered a genius for finding Kurt Warner. He got lucky. He's trying to do the same thing with J.T. O'Sullivan. His style of play calling will leave Frank Gore, the best 49er, with fewer carries. He wants to stretch the field and score, score, score. Unfortunately, he's still the offensive coordinator for San Fransisco. That team needs to really work on pounding the ball with Gore and opening up passing lanes for whomever they choose to start.

The whiners are worth a look. Martz certainly brings a lot to this team. However, to say that san fran will benefit immediately from this system is unrealistic. Martz offensive system is complicated. You will see flashes of brilliance, but then what has been left to work with. With the Rams in 99 that was what we will call a series coincidental events. (1) Rams had chemistry (2) Easy schedule (3) Talent. What does San Fran have? QB controversy, a tough schedule and unproven talent.

I give these guys another year and then I would talk playoffs, if they can get it together.

mike martz cant change the 49ers offense if the players are bad no matter what play he calls,if the offensive line players well and the new quarterback sullivan plays well and the receivers play well and the running back plays well then martz will make a different,I'm a big ninner fan I'm glad to see alex smith on the bench every year they have an excuse why he ***** last year was he had a sucky offense coordinator this year he doesn't know marts offense this quarterback is a complete bust,i was very disappointed when the 49ers drafted him he was a system quarterback at college.
